The East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) provides emergency 999 case and telephone clinical assessment services for a population of 4.8 million people across six counties including Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Rutland, Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire. On average, they receive a new 999 call every 40 seconds.

Why

Traditionally, the vast majority of Make Ready programmes within the UK have been paper based, which in turn provides a dynamic organisation such as EMAS challenges including:

    • Inefficient process delivery and recording
    • Access to data and integrity of data
    • Decision-making

The dynamic environment of an ambulance service means that EMAS requires an agile digital platform that can be adapted to ever-changing needs.

We have been working in partnership with EMAS to implement a unique workflow suited to its objectives through the Mo:dus Make Ready app.

How

Due to its design, Mo:dus offers a bespoke MI suite, meaning that ambulance trusts can receive a best-in-class solution for their requirements as well as standard Make Ready KPIs. An agile discovery and development process was adopted to understand what worked for EMAS and what else was needed.

Mo:dus Make Ready supports practitioners, with increased transparency, resiliency, accuracy and insight as well as assurances and governance, enabling them to focus on their core role of enhancing patient safety.

Making work life better

The platform has enabled EMAS teams to gain an improved level of data collection and data accuracy, creating and maintaining efficiency and compliancy. Mo:dus Make Ready has also enabled EMAS to achieve true asset management which prevents them from replacing equipment or consumables prematurely.

The integrated RFID scanning technology has saved EMAS an average of 15 minutes per vehicle preparation. If an ambulance trust has 400 vehicles that are prepped twice a day in line with a full Make Ready programme, Mo:dus would return 73,000 extra hours per annum, on top of the core benefits of the digital process.

In turn, this allows the highly skilled EMAS clinicians to serve their communities better through championing the core Make Ready philosophies.
